Brewery: Naufrageur
Name: Hildegarde
Style: see notes
Percentage: 4.5
IBU: 21
Other: An attempt at recreating a very old style of beer (includes honey and herbs). The woman at the brewery as much as admitted it was pretty weird.
Tasting notes:
  • sharp, herby, unpleasant metallic nose
  • "eau de paint thinner" was my first reaction
  • very piney, in no good way
  • oddly bitter - I say "oddly" because it doesn't seem to be hops
  • one friend wouldn't drink it
  • I had five or six sips out of fascination and a desire to describe it
  • and one friend thought it was just fine
