Siem Reap, rainstorm

Bicycling in 15cm of water

A friend asked "where exactly are you, right now?" It was an interesting time to ask. As many of you know or have guessed, I'm posting my blog entries on a three to seven day delay. As I write this, I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Siem Reap, and a monsoon-like rain has just ended - leaving a three meter wide by 15 cm deep river outside. I shot this picture as the rain fell - had to use the flash, so I got drops of rain frozen in the air. The monsoon isn't due for a month or two, but nobody seems too surprised. Now the kids are running around with plastic swords, hacking at each other in water almost up to their knees. The water isn't draining off quickly (it's the Third World, good drainage is a First World thing).

And I'm posting this entry right now, realtime. Enjoy!
