On New Year's Eve (January 28th, 2006) I went to Hoan Kiem Lake in the Old Quarter of Hanoi to watch the fireworks at midnight. I was there all through the evening, and I spent some of the time photographing reflections in the lake. What you see here is a heavily decorated tree in front of the bridge to the tiny island holding the Ngoc Son temple. I think the temple usually closes around 5:00 PM, but not New Year's Eve: people flooded the bridge all night, and there was some sort of performance going on out there towards midnight.
